12" x 12" original acrylic on canvas
Originally, the old stage coach stop was a large, symmetrical, two-storey wooden structure located on the old Halifax Highway. Stage coaches ran bi-weekly from Halifax to Amherst. Patrons could receive lodging for the night, a bed and a beverage for a very reasonable rate. Travel in the stage coaches was eventful and, depending on the season, could prove more than interesting. Mail sacks traveled with the travelers during the driving spring rain, blinding winter snowstorms, sweltering heatwaves or dusty rut-ridden muddy roads. A good journey would reflect rested well fed horses, a cordial coach driver, and no broken wooden wheels.
